Stafford County Public Schools has 2 new openings for Master’s +/Specialist or Doctoral level school psychology interns for the SY2018-19.  We have just added two internship positions, bringing our total internship cohort to 4 interns, and allowing for a true cohort experience.  Successful applicants will join a team of 17 school psychologists, and 23 educational diagnosticians in a mid-sized suburban district in northern Virginia.  The internship program in SCPS has been successfully providing the culminating supervised training experience for interns for over 12 years.  Although we are not an APPIC site, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral clinical supervision is available for doctoral-level interns.  Interns receive a stipend of $20,000, work a teacher schedule, and receive benefits.  Please contact Dr. Emma Jurrens, Lead Psychologist/Internship Supervisor, at jurrenseb@staffordschools.net for additional information and internship application materials

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of school psychology, including knowledge of psychological evaluations using intelligence, personality, psychomotor function; behavioral and personality instruments; knowledge of child growth and development, learning, measurement, research, statistics, and intervention and prevention strategies. Knowledge of federal and state regulations as well as, guidelines related to special education and pupil personnel service programs.

Essential Functions:

 Performs psycho-educational assessments of students, observations, data collection, interpretation and analyses.

 Provides written evaluations that are reviewed and co-signed by supervisor, as required by state, federal and local guidelines.

 Develops and refines skills in understanding and applying research data and research studies, as it relates to interventions and support at the school level.

 Consults and assists teachers to determine and implement appropriate academic and behavioral interventions in classrooms.

 Consults with other psychologists to enhance and broaden the internship experience.

 Provides academic and behavioral intervention services for students in collaboration with classroom teachers.

 Participates in the child study and eligibility meetings to prescribe student interventions and assist the team to identify students for special education services.

Dare County (NC) has 2 openings for certified school psychologists or school psychology interns for the 2018-19 school year (and the positions are ACTUALLY open right now). They will also have at least 1 position for the 2019-2020 school year. 

Dare County extends from about 50 miles south of Chesapeake to the southern tip of Hatteras (NC), and includes Roanoke Island. Psychological and Diagnostic Services in the Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) offers a specialist internship for eligible candidates in school psychology. For the 2017-2018 school year CCPS will have three intern positions available.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST INTERN (3 POSITIONS)

2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR 

General Description: Under supervision, provides professional educational and psychological services to students to include classroom interventions, student assessments and placement recommendations, individual and group counseling, consultation services to staff and parents, and critical incident intervention.  Complex work is performed within specific program objectives and policies; employee communicates with teachers and other school personnel to plan work and coordinates with others to ensure service effectiveness.   Contacts are made regularly and frequently with instructional and administrative personnel, as well as with community resource personnel. 

Essential Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

·         Provides academic and behavioral intervention services for students in collaboration with classroom teachers.

·         Develops and refines skills in understanding  and applying research data and research studies, as it relates to interventions and support at the school level.

·         Consults and assists teachers to determine and implement appropriate academic and behavioral interventions in classrooms.

·         Consults with other psychologists to enhance and broaden the internship experience.

·         Develops and coordinates various psychological services available to students and staff.  Provides training to staff and parents.

·         Serves as a liaison between home, school, and community.  Coordinates community resources to address child and family needs.

·         Provides written evaluations that are reviewed and co-signed by supervisor, as required by state, federal and local guidelines.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of school psychology, including knowledge of psychological evaluations using intelligence, personality, psychomotor function; behavioral and personality instruments; knowledge of child growth and development, learning, measurement, research, statistics, and intervention and prevention strategies.  Knowledge of federal and state regulations as well as, guidelines related to special education and pupil personnel service programs.  Demonstrated ability in individual and group decision-making, problem analysis and conflict resolution, and collaboration with other therapeutic and instructional personnel.  Intern psychologist must be knowledgeable and proficient with technology tools.

Requirements:

Interns must be working toward an educational specialist degree from an approved program in school psychology and are required to seek provisional certification as a School Psychologist in Virginia. Individual/group supervision is tailored to individual needs and internship program requirements. Interns must hold a valid driver’s license.

Reports To:  Supervisor of School Psychologists and Educational Diagnosticians.   Under direct supervision of Supervising School Psychologist, and School Principals.               

Terms of Employment:    This is a temporary work assignment with a maximum of 40 hours of paid compensation per week between August 14, 2017 and June 21, 2018. (2017-2018 School Year Only)
