    Come join our team in South Richmond Virginia area! Prince George County Public Schools in Virginia is hiring either some part time School Psychologists or a full time School Psychologist for the 24-25 school year! Our team is works collaboratively within our department and is extremely supportive of each other. We have a work-life balance in our day-to-day work and receive the support of our director. We do not have to case manage or schedule meetings. We have flexibility in our roles for preferred activities such as consultations, behavior supports, and/or short-term counseling. We also have access to funding for professional development

    such as VASP, NASP, and virtual conferences. The location is close to the James River, 2 hours to the mountains, the beach, and D.C.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Candidates must possess a Master's or Doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related field from an accredited institution. Va. Licensure in Pupil Personnel Services and certification as a school psychologist is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in conducting psychological assessments, interpreting assessment results, and providing evidence-based interventions and counseling services to students. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are

    essential. Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational or clinical setting is preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of special education laws and regulations, as well as

    experience in multidisciplinary team collaboration and consultation.


    DESCRIPTION

    The School Psychologist is integral in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students within the school setting. This role involves conducting psychological assessments, providing

    counseling services, collaborating with school staff and families, and contributing to the development of positive learning environments.


    GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

    ● Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, academic,

    social-emotional, and behavioral functioning.

    ● Interpret assessment results and communicate findings to parents, teachers, and other stakeholders

    to inform educational planning and intervention strategies.

    ● Provide individual and group counseling services to students to address academic, behavioral, and

    emotional concerns and promote social-emotional development.

    ● Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement interventions

    and accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.

    ● Consult with parents, teachers, and other professionals to address academic and behavioral

    challenges and facilitate student success.

    ● Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and

    behavior intervention plans for students with disabilities.

    ● Provide crisis intervention and support to students and families during times of emotional distress or

    behavioral crisis.

    ● Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and parent education programs on topics related to mental

    health, behavior management, and social-emotional learning.

    ● Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, counseling sessions, and interventions,

    ensuring compliance with privacy laws and ethical standards.

    ● Stay current with research and best practices in school psychology and participate in professional

    development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

    ● Performs other related duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISION

    Work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel and the Director of Student Services.


    WORK CONDITIONS

    This position typically operates within the school setting, including offices, classrooms, and meeting spaces. The psychologist may conduct assessments and counseling sessions in private or group settings,

    depending on student needs. The work environment may involve exposure to students with diverse backgrounds and experiences, as well as occasional challenging behaviors or emotional situations. The

    psychologist may need to travel between school sites or attend meetings outside of regular school hours as part of their responsibilities. Additionally, the psychologist may participate in school-wide initiatives,

    professional development activities, and interdisciplinary team meetings to support the overall mission and goals of the school. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Work

    requires assignments involving a great deal of interactions with people as well as meeting frequent deadlines.

    SALARY RANGE

    $72,758 – $115,393 (12 month position)

    *The salary noted is based on the 2023-24 school year. Salaries will be updated following the 2024-25 budget confirmation.

    SUMMARY

    To understand young people and provide them with services that will enhance their cognitive, social, and emotional development.  This professional promotes mental health in the school environment and assists in providing a quality educational experience for all students.  The role of the school psychologist includes participation on multidisciplinary assessment teams, discipline teams and individualized educational program teams; completion of psycho-educational evaluation; consultations with parents, teachers, and administrators; facilitation of communication between professionals; participation in crisis intervention services; and child advocacy.  The school Psychologist plans and carries out programs to enable children to attain maximum achievement by performing the following duties.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Conducts diagnostic studies to identify child's needs, limitations, and potentials, observing child in classroom and at play, studying school records, consulting with parents and school personnel, and administering and interpreting diagnostic findings.
    • Plans special placement or other treatment programs.
    • Counsels students individually and in groups to assist pupils to achieve personal, social, and emotional adjustment.
    • Carries out research to aid in introduction of programs in schools to meet current psychological, educational, and sociological needs of children. 
    • Advises teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide motivating educational environment.
    • Refers individuals to community agencies to secure medical, vocational, or social services for child or family.
    • Participates in planning of remedial classes and testing programs designed to meet needs of students.
    • Serves as consultant to school board, superintendent, administrative committees, and parent teacher groups in matters involving psychological services within educational system or school.
    • Administers individual psycho-diagnostic techniques for the assessment of intelligence, personality, aptitude, achievement and perception.
    • Participates in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs.
    • Conducts short-term individual and/or group counseling whenever possible.
    • Conducts in-service workshops or consultative conferences for school personnel on request or as needed.
    • Interprets test results to parents and teachers.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; and four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

     

    REASONING ABILITY 

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Hold appropriate Virginia Department of Education certification.
